The picturesque town is located in the department of Vaucluse and known as the source of the Sorgue River. History of Fontaine-de-Vaucluse has its roots in prehistoric times, as evidenced by ancient writings. Recent archaeological findings indicate that the spring was worshiped by the ancient pagans.
The patron of the city is Bishop of Cavaillon - St. Veran, who lived in these parts as a hermit about in 515 year. The legend has it that St. Veran deprived of the River Sorgue from sinister dragon named Coulobre
Today in Fontaine-de-Vaucluse resides about 600 people. Though the town is small, but it can win the heart of any museologists because it has a lot of interesting museums with unique exhibits.
