The village of Saint-Léger was founded around 1000. (Today it is quite difficult to determine the exact date of the village foundation, as the written documents did not exist until the 15th century). The only fortunately preserved sources are statutes the religious orders. Like most villages in the valley the foundation of Saint-Léger was dated by the scientists to about 1000.

According to the «traces» found by archaeologists it can be concluded that starting from the Bronze Age (1500 BC), this valley was inhabited. At the time of the Roman invasion, Julius Caesar named called Tricores the residents of the Drac Valley. We know that to the south of the present village there was an auxiliary road that connected Col de Manse and Orcières. This place is still called «Roads», but without specifying the locality. We can assume that if the road existed this area would have been settled.
