Amirat is a picturesque village located in the department of Alpes-Maritimes in the region of Provence-Alpes-Cote d’Azur in the green hills overlooking the Esteron Valley. It is surrounded by scenic evergreen woodlands.
Amirat consists of several small villages, which today is a home to only 63 residents. These are Les Agots, Le Village, Maupoil-Saint Jeannet, L'Ubac d'Amirat. Rural houses stand along the main road on a hillside with panoramic views of the mountain range of Mercantour and the snow-capped Italian Alps. Moderate climate, protected from the surrounding mountain ranges and warm sunny weather attract to the village the lovers of nature and quiet.
The name of the village comes from the Latin «Admiratum», which means «lookout» (first mentioned in 1043 year). Perhaps the name is related to the geographical location of the small town, which boasts a dominant species around.
The first written mention of Amirat dated from the 1125  year, because in these places the abbey Lerins was founded by that time. While the village was called Willelmi de amirad. It was only 1605 when in the journal of entries of Abbey of Saint Pons it was referred to as Admirat. Later the name was cutted and then it was called La commune d'Amirat, ie Amirat. The emblem of the village Amirat is the depicted squirrel and inscription «Faï toun dévév». Probably in the woods, where the village is located, there are many these forest dwellers.
