A small modern city with a rich history, Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, is located at the northern foot of the Alps, in the Bouches-du-Rhône department of Provence-Alpes-Cote d’Azur (South-East of France). Here the prophet Nostradamus and the painter Van Gogh lived.

You can get here quickly by bus from Arles, Avignon or Aix.

This city can be rightfully called a «treasury» of the Gallo-Roman era in the open air. (The first written mention of it dates back to the 6th century BC. Then a sanctuary was founded here by Phoenician merchants around which a city «rose» over time). The first "name" of the city given to it in 102 BC (after the Caius Marius’s legions arrival) was Glanum.

The city's history is reflected in its architecture. In this place full of Provencal charm there are also many later buildings: from the early Christian (like the Monastery Saint-Paul de Mausole, where the painter Vincent Van Gogh died) to medieval and Baroque buildings.
