It would be a shame to be in France and not a walk in the Écrins Park!
Fresh air, beautiful nature – forests and mountains of stunning beauty – all this awaits you in the Écrins National Park located between the towns of Gap, Grenoble and Briancon on 92,000 hectares (at an altitude of about 4,100 meters, and the Écrins mountain reaches more than 4,102 meters above sea level).
Guests will see here a typical (but no less beautiful) alpine scenery.
Prepare photo and video cameras to capture this wonderful contrast of green of oak, pine and beech forests with whitening snow-capped peaks!
The territory of the park located on the lands of Isere and Hautes-Alpes departments are limited with the valleys of Guisane, Durance, Drac and Romanche rivers. This national park (the fifth in a row in the country) was founded in 1973. It is not worth to look for the Directorate of the park in the reserve. It has an office in the city of Gap, at that cooperating closely with the Alpine Club and Naturalists’ Club.
You can stay in the Écrins National Park for quite long admiring with pleasure the beauty of the natural landscapes during leisurely walks. In the tourists’ aid there is an excellently developed infrastructure (the hikers are waited by more than 700 km of special trails-paths). The travellers can hide from the rain or just have a break in one of the 30 comfortably furnished «shelters».

In the territory of the park the subalpine and alpine meadows, plains and lakes are replaces by the majestic «severe» glaciers (more than a hundred peaks with the heights of minimum 300 meters, and 40 glaciers which occupy 17 thous. Ha of the park land are divided into 7 sections).
Meeting a fox, marmots, chamois, a wolf or a wild boar is not uncommon here. Of the birds one can meet an owl, a hawk, a vulture, an eagle and a golden eagles most often. Here we will see the real wealth and diversity of flora and fauna (over 120 different species of animals and 3,000 plants). Many birds and animals living here are very rare, that is why the additional measures to protect the park territory are necessary.
Thus it is forbidden to walk with the dogs (even on a leash), make noise and build fires, catch birds or animals, cull any plants, bring the weapons into the territory, litter in the park territory and so on. To come here by car is also a taboo.
Before coming here for an excursion it is worth to visit on a tour to visit the Park Directorate in Gap to place the order for the expedition and become familiar with all the rules and regulations. (There are rather strict limits and rules for non-compliance of which the violators will be punished in the form of large fines).
