Would you like to visit the unusual museum? Then let’s go to the department of Provence - Alps, the city of Menerbes (fr. Ménerbes). Especially interesting this trip will be for wine lovers and collectors – because there is a unique Corkscrew Museum in Menerbes!
This museum (located in the building of the Domaine de la Citadelle) collected and put on display a very impressive collection of more than 1,200 pieces of corkscrews. From vintage ones manufactured in the 17th century and to the exemplars made quite «recently» - during the 20th century. And the first written record about the use of the corkscrew is dated 1676!
Simply all kinds of tools for opening the bottles are here! (The corkscrews were in use already in the 1st half of XVII century when they were also used for opening bottles with butter, beer, perfumes and ink). By the way, the price of collectors’ corkscrews can range from some $ 10-20 to more than 20 thousand! And in different countries the clubs corkscrews collectors are registered.

Among the corkscrews exhibited in Menerbes we can identify so-called «ornately shaped» ones, that is, with different figurine of people, animals, variety of symbols and so on. There are several varieties of mechanical corkscrews (lever, T-shaped, etc.), as well as special pocket series in the form of keys and made entirely of wood.
The Museum also has very-very «exotic» exemplars like a corkscrew - ring, corkscrew - walking - stick or a revolver with a corkscrew «in one bottle»... There is even a set of King Louis XVIII and a set the allegedly belonged to James Bond dated XIX century.
Thereat, absolutely all exemplars in the museum specimens are in working condition. The director of the establishment tried them personally! By the way, here you will be offered not only an interesting tour – the volunteers will be able to taste and buy excellent French wine.
