Côte d’Azur is certainly a true «paradise» for tourists. In the summer there is no sweltering heat, the winter is mild and warm, at any time of the year there is a welcoming noise of gentle sea waves ...

The picture is completed by the mass of entertainments suiting all tastes and an excellent infrastructure. Not surprisingly that the holidays on the Côte d’Azur is so attractive to celebrities, politicians and wealthy businessmen from around the world.

Diving on the Côte d’Azur

The Côte d’Azur attracts the tourists-diving amateurs as a magnet. (For those who want to enjoy the journey in the «underwater world» France offers special dive tours).

But it is worth considering – in some of the French clubs a diver will be required a certain standard certificate (CMAS and CEDIP) to rent a diving equipment; at that, a novice can be refused.

However, there is good news for the beginners – on the Côte d’Azur the dive centres are mostly designed just for novice divers. (For example, in Plongée Club de Cannes located in Cannes even the children from 12 years are allowed to try hand at diving. In the Nemo Plongée club in the same Cannes the scuba diving for both the experienced divers and beginners are organised. Also, you will be given the opportunity to go on a boat trip at night – with fireworks!).

Those dreaming to master different types of diving on the Côte d’Azur will be able to fulfil the dream of one of the diving training schools under the guidance of an experienced instructor. He will take care that your first dives took place in complete safety. And at France Langue school in Nice (and also in some more centres) you can perfectly combine the diving training with the study of the French language.

What can be seen during the dive

In the Mediterranean, the water is very clear that allows us to contemplate its flora and fauna in all its details. Here you can see the «king» of the underwater world – the giant from the family of stonebasses – the grouper or «snakes-fish», the morays and lobsters, bright corals, octopuses, rays, ocean perches and coveys of a variety of little fish. Some of them are not afraid of divers at all, on the contrary, the curiously "circle" around the divers.

Often the divers find the shipwrecks lying on the sea bottom that complements the impression of diving. The skeletons of these ships have now become a part of nature and the «refuge» for a variety of sea animals. Also diving is interesting by the opportunity to explore the underwater rock caves (there are over 20,000 of them on the Côte d’Azur!)

Diving on the Côte d’Azur: where to go?

No matter in what «point» of the Côte d’Azur you would happen to be – there are diving clubs on any of the main beaches. They provide the accompaniment of the experienced instructors and diving equipment rental. But the main diving centre is the town of Saint-Raphaël well-known to fans of diving. Dive sites here vary in the degree of difficulty. (But at every level, the divers, except for «acquaintance» with marine life, are awaited by lots of interesting underwater artifacts).

At the quaint coastal line of Nice you will also come across an interesting underwater and several diving centres.

In the Bay of Villefranche (located near the town of Villefranche-sur-Mer) the divers are attracted by the coral cave and the airplane fallen into the water that lies here at a depth of 42 meters. Also here under the water you can see the unusual sight – the statue of the Virgin Mary flooded near Cape of Nice.

The prices for diving can be found on the Internet on the pages of the French diving clubs (it should be noted that most of them provide information in French).
