The French court of Nanterre ordered the popular Closer magazine to pay moral compensation to the royal family for publishing the nude photos of the Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton.
For the moral damage caused by Kate Middleton and her husband Prince William, the court in the suburbs of Paris decided to pay an amount of 50,000 euros to the heads of the French magazine Closer, who in 2012 published the nude photographs of the Duchess. True, the royal family insisted on a much larger amount - 1.5 million euros. The photos were made in the summer of 2012 in Provence, when the family was resting in a rented private hotel in Luberon. It was reprinted by most European tabloids, except for the British ones.
The publication became especially painful for the monarchal couple, as it reminded them of the persecution of Princess Diana, the mother of Prince William, who died while fleeing a car from a paparazzi. During a hearing in May, a royal family lawyer read a letter in which Prince William reminded the court of his mother's persecution of paparazzi. The lawsuit was filed against 6 media members. The prosecutor demanded a significant amount of reimbursement against two publishers of Laurence Pieau and Ernesto Mauri, who published a photo of the duchess that had tanned by the pool and several paparazzi who made these photos. In their defense, they asserted that they printed the photographs in order to refute false rumors of Kate - which seems to be ill with anorexia and is overweight thin. Photographers denied any actions in turn.
