On September 16 and 17 in Marseilles, the Festival of Kites will take place.
More than 32 years ago, Jean-Pierre Olive, the "master" of air kites, visited many such festivals in Europe and decided to implement this idea in his own region. With the support of their friends, they turned to the city hall of Marseille, where they received a positive response to the festival of kites at home. Since then it has become a tradition for the city. In mid-September on the Prado Beach, this incredible and vivid event takes place.
This year the festival will be called "The Celestial Sport" (Le sport céleste). The festival will be attended by the world champion for the launch of the kites John Barresi and more than 150 participants from 10 countries of the world. At the same time the competitions, interesting competitions, workshops on making kites, animation shows, fun for children are waiting for the audience. The most important event will be the "Le challenge MP 2017" competition, in which the contestants will compete for the title "Best Kite Fighter", which will be held on Saturday at 15:00.
As a result of the Irma hurricane on the French overseas islands Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy, at least nine people were killed, and another seven people are missing in the Caribbean. This was informed by the interior minister of France Gerard Collom.
