As a result of the Irma hurricane on the French overseas islands Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy, at least nine people were killed, and another seven people are missing in the Caribbean. This was informed by the interior minister of France Gerard Collom.

The Hurricane Irma is considered the most powerful and most devastating hurricane that has appeared in the Atlantic Ocean in the history of observation. Already, the wind speed is almost 300 kilometers per hour. The storm has been assigned a maximum level of danger. In affected countries and regions, an emergency situation has been announced. The hurricane pulled out the roots of the tree, poured the support of the power lines, tearing the roofs out of the houses. Wave height in some areas was about seven meters. Caribbean islands "Irma" turned into ruins. Puerto Rico, as well as islands belonging to the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and France, were severely affected.

The Hurricane Irma, which was assigned the highest level of danger, collapsed on the Caribbean islands on September 6. The wind speed reached 300 km / h. According to local authorities, this powerful hurricane has destroyed 95% of the French part of the island of Saint-Martin. PACA started active work on salvation and assistance to victims. A group of 15 firefighters from the departmental fire and rescue service of the Alpes-Maritimes, arrived on the island and began rescue operations. They will stay in place for about 15 days. They took with them 15 tons of equipment. Also from Cannes, on the order of Mayor David Lisnar, two trucks with drinking water were sent to the island. They traveled to the island of Saint Barthélemy on the ship of the French National Navy from the port of Toulon on Tuesday morning.
